Music has been the language of heart to heart communication between Man and Eternity since
times immemorial. When words fail, music speaks. Man has tried to express his feelings
through music using various instruments, which resemble certain sounds of nature. Although
the creation of stringed instruments dates back to thousands of years before the birth of Christ,
the presently-used classical guitar was invented around 16th century. Since then, every rose
and every empty vase has stored its unspoken words in the lively strings.
Classical guitar is actually one of the most unique musical instruments. The real speciality of
music lies in its ability to mould itself into different styles, forms and patterns in order to
express different emotions. This ability gives music the dignity of a language. Classical guitar is
probably the only instrument on which almost all styles can be played. Starting from folk,
Flamenco and classical styles of Renaissance period, to arrangement of music originally made
for piano, violin, flute, voice, etc. as well as contemporary experimental music — Classical
guitarists can play everything with varying dynamics. So much so that one piece of music can be
played with different emotions.
Although I am a student at present, I have realized in this short span of my musical journey that
if a person successfully builds a connection with his instrument, it can teach him almost
everything in a magical way. Not only will it develop his musical and aesthetic taste, but also
create his own special personality, mentality and perspective. The only condition is that he has
to survive for ‘The Love Of Art’. An eminent musician once said, «Music changes lives». It’s true.
I myself can’t recognize my self before guitar entered my life. For any person, it can sound
overly poetic and confusing, but make guitar your best friend, and you won’t remain a normal
common man anymore . Guitar is my best friend too. It’s the best ever! You’ll see that guitar
will even talk to you. When that state is achieved, you will know that you have become
inseparable from each other. The world may come to an end, everyone may leave you, every
flower may get dried. But if you love your guitar, it will never let go of your hand. It will give you
everything. It can show you ‘A whole new world’. And that’s where the speciality of music and
art lies. That’s where the real uniqueness of classical guitar lies. This magic cannot be explained
entirely through science, facts and laws. Shakespeare’s quote is probably the most relatable in
this context : «There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your
philosophy.»
